I’m thankful…
- for wisdom
- for timeless quotes
- for God’s affirmation
- for my soldier
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.”
~G. K. Chesterton
"Love is unselfishly choosing for another's highest good." – C.S. Lewis
I’m thankful…
I’m thankful for…
my husband, my parents and every veteran,
free meals,
beautiful, sunny weather,
the Great Smoky Mountains National Park,
seeing 29 deer, 1 black bear, several turkeys, crows and squirrels,
that my kids were so excited to ride without their seat belts around the Cades Cove loop,
home,
watching Everybody Loves Raymond with my sweetie.
I’m thankful for…
a husband who will get up on his day off and make us biscuits and gravy, bacon and eggs,
and who did all the dishes and made brownies for the cookout,
cooking out with friends,
getting a sunburn in November,
seeing Jonah squeal when a dog licked his face and hands,
watching the kids roast marshmallows,
eating gooey, roasted marshmallows,
having enough money to just run in and get what I need at the grocery store,
letting the kids get dirty all day,
the smell of clean little guys after bathtime,
these last weeks of family time.
Sometimes I’m just thankful that the day is almost over and God’s mercies are new every morning.
I’m thankful for my husband, sweatpants and my soft, brown recliner.
Do everything you can to live a quiet life. Mind your own business. Work with your hands, just as we told you to. Then unbelievers will have respect for your everyday life. And you won’t have to depend on anyone.
1 Thessalonians 4:11-12
Today I’m thankful that the election is over.
I’m very thankful that I have the freedom to vote.
I’m thankful that those around me have the freedom to argue politics.
I’m thankful I live in a country full of historical riches.
I’m thankful my children are able to see that there were men and women just like their daddy who sacrificed time (and their lives) for their country.
Today I’m thankful…
that I didn’t have to wake my kids up before they were ready,
that I didn’t have to go out and start the van so it would be warm as we left for school,
or send them out in the dark, cold, rainy morning to ride a stinky, jerk-filled school bus,
that I didn’t have to rush them through breakfast,
that we read the Bible while we ate warm eggs and yummy doughnuts (thanks Aunt Faye),
that we worked together on chores and schoolwork,
that I didn’t have to pack a cold lunch and wonder if they ate any of it,
that I could wipe my little girl’s tears when she couldn’t get her word spelled correctly,
that I could joke with my son about a science experiment and the way you say “Qatar”,
that I don’t have to wake up the baby to go sit in a carpool line,
that I don’t get the left-overs of my children’s days.
I’m thankful for homeschooling!
Today I’m thankful for our very best friends.
One day we will be able to tell them about when Theodore and Ryne had matching pacifiers.
And when Avalon and Foster graduated Kindergarten together.
And all the sleepovers Katie and Avi had, from the fun ones, to the one where Katie told Avi about shadows that looked like dinosaurs.
And one day Jane and I will get to sit on the beach, sipping our cold drinks and commiserating about how much things have changed since the group home days.

I’m thankful …
that our whole family was able to worship together,
that two of my children have my husband’s big, brown eyes,
Sunday afternoon naps,
that kids will eat pretty much anything if you call it a snack,
that I don’t have to hear TV commercials in my house,
coloring books,
that I was able to be there when Chris was licensed and to hear him preach,
that I don’t care what noises I hear at night when he’s home,
that he still has a month before he leaves.
